If you have not heard it already EDC Mexico 2018 will take place in Mexico City on February 24 & 25th for its 5th annual adventure Under the Electric Sky south of the border. This event is expected to unite a record-shattering 200,000 fans from around the world, officially crowning it as the country’s largest music festival. The event is being held at a racetrack in Mexico City called Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Having been to the past seven past EDC Las Vegas, I am beyond excited to see what the event outside the US is like.
What to expect
Insomniac is already known for going above and beyond when it comes to stage production. This year, they have made it clear the show in Mexico is going to be one for the books. They claim that they are “Pulling out all the stops” for this event. One of these “stops” will be premiering an all-new circuitGROUNDS design. As the second largest stage at the festival, it will span over 200 feet. Two more stages will be opened this year, bringing it to a total of six stages to explore.
Expect totems. I can say that from traveling around the world to festivals last year that no other festival does totems like EDC. Insomniac really encourages it, which is why there are always so many totems. Totems are not only fun but they make finding your friends so much easier. It was a nightmare trying to find friends at festivals like Tomorrowland in the crowds with no totems. A group called Barcel Chips, a company in Mexico, even hosted a totem contest for EDC and offered winners tickets to the event. In fact, they actually offered to give away 120 tickets to winners. They are announcing the winners tomorrow on their facebook page. You can check out the entries here.
Totem Guidelines (per EDC Mexico website)
- Maximum height is 3 meters.
- Totems must be made from a lightweight material (e.g., foam, PVC / no solid metal).
- Collapsible/telescoping camera extenders that follow the above guidelines are OK (lightweight/hollow aluminum/polycarbonate).
- PVC, light wood, aluminum poles must be no thicker than 2.5 cm in diameter.
- Decorated pool noodles work great for easy entrance through security.
- Inflatables attached to totems must be deflated upon entry.
- Any item deemed dangerous will not be allowed.
- Totems promoting illegal activity or hate speech will not be permitted. Please keep it PLUR.
Where will I be?
So where will you find me? I will probably be In the middle of the crowd during Above & Beyond. I have no idea when they go on or what day but I know that I will be there no matter what happens. A few other sets I won’t be missing out on will be Deadmau5, ATB, Kungs, Illenium & REZZ. With so many stages and such a diverse lineup, this event will be one to remember.
Water Refill Stations
I can always count on Insomniac hooking me up with water. I never realized how rare it was to come across water refill stations until last year while traveling around the world for festivals. Yes, the festivals will always sell water but being able to fill up for free is always nice. Especially if you are like me and drink a ton of water. I can also always count on the people working the stations to have the most uplifting attitudes as well! Stay hydrated and take advantage of the water refill stations.
Could this event sell out?
It just might. Recently, on EDC Mexico’s Facebook page, they announced that the two-day passes are 92% sold out, so there is a high possibility of this event selling out with only a few days to go. If you are planning to go and have still not purchased a ticket you can do so by clicking this link.
What is next for EDC?
As the EDC brand continues to grow in popularity around the world, it is no surprise that Insomniac has decided to open the gates to a brand new EDC China edition. EDC China will take place April 29 & 30, at Shanghai International Music Park in Shanghai, China. So if you are an international festival goer or live in China this is your chance to experience the brand new EDC China. If you would like information on the brand new China edition you can click here.
If you are a fellow festival goer and are planning on going to this event in Mexico and would like to meet up you can send me a message on Facebook or Instagram.
