Girl Power at Movement Detroit

Written by Jen Fall

In the 90’s, my generation had the Spice Girls. (Yes, I am aging myself here).  Then we had Britney Spears, followed by (all hail) queen Beyoncé, and countless other amazing female artists that I have followed throughout my musical journey of life.

Divas aside NOTHING beats a female DJ. Moving up in the ranks of what has generally always been a boys’ club, I am always impressed to see bad-ass women hitting the decks. Movement is showcasing some amazing female talent over Memorial Day weekend.

Topping the list for me is ANNA. Her set at Ultra Miami this year gave me LIFE! You can even see me on the live feed for my 2.5 seconds of fame. ANNA is a Brazilian powerhouse. She recently won the award for Best Breakthrough Artist of 2016 at the DJ Awards in Ibiza, and has a touring schedule this year that is quite impressive. Don’t miss her set on Sunday at 4 PM at the Pyramid Stage.

Looks like I will be bouncing around a little bit, because Heidi is booked at essentially the same time slot. Problems, am I right? Heidi is an old school house and techno DJ who grew up in Canada, right across from Detroit. She has honed her skills in London, and now tours the country with her Jackathon parties. If you haven’t seen her yet, we can bounce around together. Heidi plays at the Stargate Stage at 4:30 PM on Sunday.

Nicole Moudaber, oh how I longed to watch your set at Ultra Miami 2017. Serious FOMO.  How I was the last to know you were a special guest at the spider is lost on me. No worries, I will be at your 7:15 PM mainstage Detroit set with bells on. I suggest you get there early Saturday for a great spot to witness one of the hottest female DJs on the planet right now.

These aren’t the only talented women on the lineup. Check out Kate Simco, (a true musical genius) and Rebekah Hybrid on Sunday for an almost religious techno experience.

Last but not least includes Rrose playing a live set, Cassy, Dj Minx, Francesca Lombardo,  and Honey Dijon. Try to see them all for a full, well rounded experience of the females of Movement. So many amazing women to see, and I will be cheering front and center wearing my girl power badge of honor! See you all there!
