In a festival landscape often dominated by corporate giants, there is something inherently rebellious and refreshing about a homegrown powerhouse like ILLfest. Now in its eighth year, this Austin-born festival has become a titan while keeping its local soul intact. Join me May 29–31, 2026 at the Travis County Expo Center for a weekend of immersive art and heavy bass.
As a new Austin resident and a long-time admirer of the city’s creative pulse, I’m finally checking this major box on my festival bucket list. While I’ve spent years traversing grounds from the legendary Gorge Amphitheater to Red Rocks and the desert, 2026 marks my first time diving headfirst into the ILLfest experience. If the initial buzz is any indication, we are in for a kaleidoscopic weekend that celebrates the very best of Austin’s “Keep It Weird” spirit.
The Lineup: A Bass-Lover’s Dream
The curation for Year 8 is a masterclass in electronic diversity, proving that the festival’s musical journey is as intentional as its visual one. Leading the charge is the king of prehistoric bass, Excision, who needs no introduction amongst headbangers. Speaking of heavy hitters, everyone’s favorite saxophone-wielding, soulful, future-funk maestro, GRiZ. We are so excited to see him back from his hiatus and absolutely thriving on stage again.

The depth of this roster continues with the ethereal, mind-bending frequencies of LSDREAM. NGHTMRE brings his signature high-energy mastery to the stage for a set that promises to be relentless. Fans of the underground are already buzzing for the murky, experimental B2B set from G Jones and EPROM. The cinematic, dark vibes of ATLiens are set to haunt the dance floor with their otherworldly sound. Crankdat returns as a certified fan favorite to deliver a dose of high-octane energy. For those seeking a groove, Maddy O’Neal offers the perfect blend of soulful, funk-laced bass. She is one of my favorite artists and consistently delivers exceptional sets.
Here’s the full lineup, which keeps getting better and better the further down you read!

From the heavy-hitters to the experimental explorers, there isn’t a single weak link in this year’s chain. I made you a playlist with all of my favorite bangers — enjoy!
Party All Night
ILLfest just unveiled the on site Afters scheduled to begin immediately after the main stages go dark. These exclusive sets run until 2:00 am and are open only to festival wristband holders. Each night requires an additional pass, which can be purchased here. If you need me, catch me here:
- Friday, May 29th: LSDREAM + Bou
- Saturday, May 30th: ATLIENS + Maddy O’Neal
- Sunday, May 31st: NGHTMRE + Haritage
The Heart of the Experience: Street Art & Immersive Curation
What truly sets ILLfest apart is the visual cacophony of creativity. As the “Original Street Art & Music Festival,” it transcends the standard festival formula to actually beautify the world. Witnessing muralists create massive works of art in real-time is one of my favorite ways to experience a festival. It is a rare look at the creative process that you simply can’t find anywhere else.

We’re talking about an immersive playground doused in vibrant color and live mural sessions from internationally renowned artists. These works echo the iconic street art found throughout Austin, effectively bringing the city’s urban soul directly into the festival grounds. For any art lover, the promise of 100+ original works coming to life amidst the bass is a dream.
The Details
Here are the essential details:
- When: Friday, May 29th – Sunday, May 31st, 2026.
- Where: Travis County Expo Center, 7311 Decker Ln, Austin, TX 78724.
- The Format: ILLfest is a day festival without camping. This is the ultimate “best of both worlds” scenario. You get three days of high-octane sonic chaos, but you can still retreat to the comfort of your own bed or a legendary late-night taco run once the gates close.
- The Upgrade: For those looking to elevate the experience, the ILLVIP Sky Lounge offers balcony viewing of the outdoor main stage and lounge views of the indoor arena. It proves that independent festivals can still offer world-class production and comfort.
Why You Can’t Miss It
As a recent transplant, I have been continually struck by the kindness and warmth of the Austin community. I am ready to hit the dance floor with my fellow Austinites and get lost in that signature mix of music lovers, art enthusiasts, and beautiful weirdos that only Austin can produce.
Whether you’re a seasoned “ill-vated” veteran or a first-timer like me, this is the year to witness one of the most insane bass music festivals in Texas. Grab your tickets, wear your best fits, and I’ll see you on the mural-lined dance floor this May!
