While Chicagoans have been fully enjoying the beautiful weather this summer, the season is flying by. As Labor Day quickly approaches, my excitement is building for one of my most favorite annual events in the city – North Coast Music Festival! This year, the festival is being completely reimagined. In late 2018, Silver Wrapper, the company that hosted a number of events in Chicago, including North Coast, announced they’d be shutting down their operations. Devastated and confused, no one knew what this meant for the fate of this very popular festival. However, a partnership with Live Nation saved the festival. After weeks of waiting in anticipation, the details of the 10th anniversary of the festival were dropped, and fans were not disappointed.

Although condensing the event from 3 days to 2 days was a bit disappointing, it obviously allowed festival organizers to really step their game up in other areas. As you may know, they’ve relocated to Northerly Island for 2019. This new venue is an incredibly beautiful peninsula right off of downtown Chicago with some of the best views along the lake. The lineup this year is also spectacular. Honestly, it might be one of the best North Coast lineups I’ve seen in years. I love how each day has very strong themes and similar artists whose musical styles mesh very well together.

Speaking of the lineup, set times are finally out! I want to spotlight a few incredible artists that will be playing over the weekend. The following artists are sure to deliver some amazing sets.

i_o

Mau5trap artist i_o has been gaining some massive popularity recently. Although he is a self-proclaimed techno artist, genre elitists don’t seem to agree. His modern take on techno is refreshing and new. However, his sound does maintain the dark warehouse vibes techno fans know and love. If you’re into repetitive basslines and getting weird with the kids dressed in all black, you’ve got to catch his set.

Gorgon City (Live)

Gorgon City is very well known for their house music. They’ve produced huge hits and collaborated with tons of popular artists. Not to mention, their DJ sets are great. But, their live sets are astounding. They come equipped with an entire band on stage, multiple singers, and with their biggest hits ready to play. It’s a very different house music experience, but it’s a rare sight to see and so worth checking out.

Big Wild

I am one of Big Wild’s biggest fans. Just gonna be honest here. He puts on a show you’ll never forget. If you want to read me gush about how great he is check it out here. Otherwise, just trust me on this and be at The Pavilion at 6:55pm on Friday.

North Coast is quickly approaching which means there isn’t much time left to snag tickets! Check out the festival’s website for more info here and get your tickets here! Make sure when you’re purchasing your tickets you look at the different amenities that come with floor tickets versus lawn to ensure you’re getting what you need. Can’t wait to celebrate Labor Day weekend with all of y’all!
