Osheaga is a 3-day mixed genre festival located in downtown Montreal, August 3-5, 2018. Featuring mostly indie rock and alternative artists, it also contains an assortment of rappers, EDM performances, and folk bands.

The name Osheaga comes from the original name for Montreal. When the European settlers first encountered the native Mohawk people, they attempted to shake hands and ask about the river rapids using hand gestures. The Mohawk people said “O she ha ga,” which means people with shaking hands. From then on, the Europeans used the word Osheaga to mean “large rapids,” and the native Mohawk peoples would use the word to describe “the place where they met the people with shaking hands,” which is today modern-day Montreal.
