Growing up, I listened to a lot of Bob Marley. I think Exodus was one of the first vinyls I owned, and I found little Alyssa listening to that style of music quite frequently. It would always remind me of being on the beach with my best friends all summer, and it would always mellow me out instantly. During a Stick Figure set a few months ago, I was reminded of how much I love reggae and how much I wish I saw more of it live.
Reggae Rise Up is hitting Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida March 16th-18th. The lineup holds some of the best names in the genre, and I can’t wait to just sprawl out on a blanket and let all of my stress be swallowed by the music. With Rebelution, Damian Marley, SOJA, Nahko & Medicine for the People, Collie Buddz, and my personal favorite, Matisyahu are all on the list, bearing the pre-summer Florida heat at a venue with very little shade might just be worth it.
Tickets are on sale right now starting at just $110 for GA and $225 for VIP (don’t forget the $25 parking pass too). The VIP upgrade includes:
-Expedited Gate Entry
-Private Bar Access
-5 Free Drinks loaded onto your VIP wristband
-Premium Viewing Area
-Official Reggae Rise Up Line Up T-Shirt
-Official Reggae Rise Up Line Up VIP Lanyard
-VIP area will include games like giant jenga, beer pong, corn hole, etc.
…maybe making the extra $115 worth it? At least I think so.
Reggae Rise Up is not a camping festival, so if you’re not from the area, you will have to grab a hotel. And I would hop on it ASAP before availability or crazy prices leave you homeless for a weekend. Check out places to stay here!
My last bit of advice: I wasn’t joking about that Florida heat in a place with very little shade. Every event I’ve been to at Vinoy has been brutally hot. That’s coming from someone who was born and has lived in South Florida for the last 20 years. Please prepare, dress accordingly, and drink tons of water! No passing out. We love you too much.
