The music industry is brimming with photographers, tour managers, PR companies, record labels, and artists. When you visualize these individuals, chances are that you are seeing a man. Like most industries, the music and festival industry are largely male dominated. Women worldwide have celebrated the successes of accomplished musicians such as REZZ, Alison Wonderland, and Mija. To witness a female rise in music is empowering, even to those of us who simply support the scene.
To show support for female-badassery in music is Houston-based company, Trillvo. This EDM cultural brand and blog is seeking to empower women in the music industry, and they’re starting with a charitable fundraising event this October. Founder Raychel Harvey, or better known as RayTrill, says “This event is taking place because there is a significant lack of recognition for women in the music industry. We see this in a lot of industries but with the music industry it seems to be the most prevalent. Our goal is not to further the divide but to bring attention to the multitude of women that are not only extremely talented but women who haven’t been given the recognition they deserve.”
The event, dubbed Women Strong, will take place on Sunday, October 15 at 9pm at Avant Garden Houston. To keep true to the theme, the event will host a 6 female DJ lineup, drink specials, art vendors and Trillvo merchandise… all for just $6. The music event will simultaneously be a fundraiser for Avon Foundation, a company supporting women globally.
The lineup for the event will include: Miko Marie, Angiesliste, Mixtress BB, haunted., DJ Kosko and Phraze.
RayTrill says, “We want to come out strong and showcase this incredible talent. Having a woman in the forefront who’s making strong waves in the industry increases the powerful message behind the women empowerment movement in Houston! We wanted to make sure this event isn’t just all about us, but about women everywhere.”
