The inaugural Karoondinha, which according to their website is pronounced Ka (like a bird) – roon (like baboon) – din (like dinner) – ha (like you’re laughing) and means The Land of Shining Waters, will take place July 20th (a Thursday pre-party) through July 23rd. The festival not only boosts an impressive lineup, with headliners like Chance the Rapper, John Legend, ODESZA, and Paramore, but also a unique location. The festival will take place at Penn’s Cave & Wildlife Park, an all-water limestone cavern and wildlife park in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania. Attendees will have the chance to purchase special tour packages that will allow them to go underground in the taverns and explore the wild wolves, elk, bison, mustangs, and mountain lions in the park. The grounds, set on 1,600 acres of unspoiled farmland, rolling hills, and sunflower fields, are any festival goers Instagram dreams.
The line up refreshingly has a strong cast of female leads rounding it out. From bands like Paramore and Misterwives who have women at the lead vocals to young singers like Alessia Cara and Daya, musical acts with a feminine presence are strong at this festival. While the headliners are still mostly male dominated, it’s exciting to see a festival in its first year with a little bit more diversity, especially in an industry struggling to bridge the gender gap.
The festival offers a wide variety of camping options, from tent camping to glamping ticket options. Attendees can even choose a 4 day camping pass, with arrival on Thursday, or a 2-day weekend pass, with arrival on Saturday. In addition to the music there will be meditation, yoga, professional-level dance workshops, and even after hours DJ sets until the sunrise. Don’t miss out on your chance to walk on the wild side at the first ever Karoondinha Music and Arts festival!
