Article by Sal Scot
As 2015 comes to a close, Arizona opens the new year with it’s most stacked NYE celebration ever. Expanding the New Year’s celebration with a December 30, blow out – featuring the likes of Odesza, 3lau, and Jack Ü. Set in the same location as last year, Rawhide’s Frontier Hall will pack over 10 thousand people per day into the giant airplane hanger like venue. Those not scared to bear the outdoors, a second stage will be on the conjoining field to support the extensive cast of DJs.
Occurring in the same general area as Global, and the Mad Decent Block Party day one should be an easy entry, and exit. Though NYE day expect 30-60 minute delays for travel, with hotel prices increasing to $80-350. If desiring to stay on location at Wild Horse Pass Casino you can expect rates as high as $350, though within a 10 minute drive there are more affordable hotels. The Rural Rd. Embassy Suites runs around $100, and Spring Hill Suites is one of several near location that run about $80. With ride-shares like Uber, and Lyft having no problem accessing the event, it would be recommend as a more affordable option. Though having taxis hit around $100 for North Scottsdale and Phoenix, locations like ASU afford riders with a $25-30 price tag.
Overloading the two day line-up, Decadence outdid itself this year; stacking day 1 with headliners JackÜ, Pretty Lights, ODESZA, Tchami, Pegboard Nerds, and 3LAU ensuring a concert that stands with any NYE celebration. For those trapped in retail and restaurant jobs day 1 is your escape – raging from 6pm to 3am, and rounding the 9 hours with top acts including, Grandtheft, Manufactured Superstars, Dieselboy, Wiwek, DJ Tranzit, Sam Groove, and more.
On day two the superstars keep turning up with Above & Beyond, Adventure Club, Knife Party, Borgore, Crizzly, Gordon City, Tommy Trash, and more. The celebration continues at Frontier Hall from 6pm to 3am again, before the Rawhide Western City hosts the After Glow post-party. Don’t let the huge names blind you, there are still multiple more acts to see, so do remember to dress for walking to the other stage; Cosmic Gate, REZZ, Drezo, Bijou, Billy Kenny, Landis LaPace & more round out the acts.
Stacking both days from open to close with 9 hours of intensity, preparation can make the event. With weather ranging from 35-55 degrees, you should put on a little more. A hoodie, and jacket will do well, with possibly leggings under jeans. Having thousands inside the frontier hall the temperature raises to pants and t-shirts deep in the crowd. If you’re a wonderer, or looking to wild out, wearing long sleeve underarmour, and leggings under pants is suggested. It might be a good idea to buy a cheap sweater, zip up hoodie, and beanie from Walmart, Amazon, etc.
The event will have concessions easily accessible, but do remember almost all of this will be outside. Decadence has been planned well before, and shouldn’t have a problem dealing with the large group of people. Plan to bring water bottles, and backpacks not filled. These kind of things will be dumped during the pat down, though they will be easily accessible along with food once inside. Prices are going to be generally more expensive, with beer, and alcohol ranging $10-15, and food $10 and under.
