Late last night, the 2020 Coachella lineup dropped. In true festival fashion, it brought big names, a few surprises and took us back in time to feel some 2014-2016 vibes. Many of the big names headlining have been MIA from festivals for a few years, which in turn has raised the hype around the 2020 installment. Don’t worry, if you’re new to the festival, we’re about to break down everything you need to know.
Let’s start with the three headliners: Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean. Two of the three have been distant from performing for quite some time. What does this mean? Well, expect surprises, flocking fans and a performance of a life time you won’t want to miss. Please don’t disregard Travis Scott, because the man, the myth and the legend will most definitely bring the wildest party to the valley anyone has ever seen (if you don’t believe us, check out some videos from Astro World).
Second of all, hats off to whomever at Golden Voice chose to bring back our inner 2015 festival persona. I don’t know about you, but we are LIVING for some Calvin Harris, Duck Sauce and Disclosure. The excitement doesn’t stop there. Big names like Megan Thee Stallion, Louis the Child, Flume, Lil Nas X, Bishop Briggs and DaBaby are high on the bill and will continue to bring hype to festivals in 2020. While we may be in a new decade, it doesn’t mean our favorite acts need to stay there. Am I right?
Now, things start to get tricky as you continue to read through the additional seven lines of artists. Our advice: read all the way through, since popular names like Doja Cat, GG Magree, Malaa, Lost Kings, Hayden James and Whipped Cream came in rather low on the list of performers: this lineup goes deep.
We’ve reviewed, analyzed, scanned the lineup again and again and still continue to find hidden gems within this 2020 installment. For example, did you see the small note about 88risising’s Double Happiness feature on Saturday? Probably not, and you may not even know what that is, but if you’re a fan of Higher Brothers, Joji, Rich Brian and/or Keith Ape, you may want to stick around. You may think you saw everyone on this lineup you were excited for, but, trust us—look again—you’ll be surprised.
While many performers have graced the Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo line-ups from 2019, seeing them in the valley will be a completely different experience. 2020 starts a new decade, and quite frankly, a new age for festival lineups to provide performances from seasoned, popular and up-and-coming artists. With this being the first big lineup announcement of the year, 2020 festival season is in for many surprises.
We would love to break down our favorites, the must-sees and the hidden gems but, there’s SO MANY we need to list. To save you the time, over the course of the next 3 months we’ll give you our 5 must-sees per day. In the meantime, check out the full lineup below including headliners, special features and art installations.
Unfortunately, tickets for Weekend 1 have already sold out. Weekend 2 presale starts Monday 1/6 at 12 PM PT. Register HERE if you still want to try and snag some tickets.
Stay tuned! This is only the beginning of the new age of Coachella.
