With all of these Florida festivals being cancelled for early 2019, it’s nice to see one still standing strong. Reggae Rise Up is returning to St. Petersburg, Florida, for its 5th year, and it’s bringing along an incredible lineup. Stick Figure, Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, Ziggy Marley, Tribal Seeds, and many more will be taking the stages in Vinoy Park from March 15th-17th.
As hard as it is to pinpoint just a few favorites from a lineup filled with some of the best names in reggae, here are the top three acts I’m most excited to see at Reggae Rise Up (and you should be too).
Stick Figure
I will never forget the first time I saw Stick Figure live. While big acts like OK Go and Weezer were performing on the main stages at Firefly Music Festival in Delaware, my friend convinced me to hit one of the smaller stages to see some reggae band. As reluctant as I was to miss OK Go, I received a well deserved, “I told you so,” after that set. Definitely do not miss them on Friday!
Sticky Fingers
No, I didn’t make a typo. Australian reggae fusion/indie rock band, Sticky Fingers, will also be taking the stage alongside Stick Figure at Reggae Rise Up this year, and you better make sure you make it to both!
Ziggy Marley
We’ve definitely seen a lot more of Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley in the festival world lately. It’s been a few years and a hot minute since I’ve seen Ziggy perform. Don’t tell the others, but Ziggy is secretly my favorite of the remaining Marley’s. I am pretty stoked to see him in March!
