This past weekend previous attendance records were broken as Ultra celebrated its 5th anniversary in South Africa. The first event of the Ultra 2018 calendar took place in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
15,000 fans were welcomed into the Cape Town Stadium on Friday, February 9th. Fans danced the night away to the sounds of Afrojack, Carnage, Maalaa, and many more. The crowd rejoiced as the drought-stricken city was blessed with rain during Armin van Buuren’s set. The incredible moment was made all the more remarkable by a surprise appearance by Mr. Probz who delivered live vocals of ‘Waves’ and his collaboration with Armin, ‘Another You’.
The RESISTANCE stage drew unprecedented crowds into the stadium’s basement with some heavy house and techno from Dubfire, Eats Everything and others.
A record-breaking crowd of 32,000 filled the Expo Centre at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Saturday, February 10th. This was the biggest and most successful event here to date. From the main stage to the Until Until Stage, hosted by MTV featuring the best of local hip-hop talent, the production and performances amazed attendees all weekend.
“ULTRA SA brings new surprises each year and this year was no exception. It also brings new magic each time we produce the show, and 2018 was the most magical yet,” says Shaun Duvet, a partner in ULTRA South Africa. Speaking on behalf of the full ULTRA SA team and sponsors, we are blown away by the support of the fans and industry and cannot wait to see what 2019 brings.”
The next Ultra will take place in Australia on February 24th and then its flagship event in Miami will be March 23rd-25th. Explore the other Ultra Worldwide events here.
