Mija is the kind of DJ who isn’t afraid to interrupt a set to serenade the audience with a full classical piano solo. She doesn’t hesitate to weave different stylings together, or flip a tempo on its head. She displays just as much energy on stage as she implicitly demands from her crowd, and never have I seen a more simple summation of a DJ’s self-expression than in Mijas’s “Fk a Genre” Tour.
I was fortunate enough to catch the humble, rainy beginnings of this tour at UpNorth Music & Arts Festival in August, where just after dusk we were treated to a one-of-a-kind experience. Due to poor weather that day time allowed for only a couple of full sets, but our girl ended up going back to back with Vindata and Shawn Wasabi—a real treat for fans old and new.
Unique experiences like these are why I love Mija’s performances. She is always pushing new connections, and thinking of new tricks for her fans to enjoy. With a tour largely billed around mysterious “special guests”, I have no doubt it will live up to expectations.
