This weekend April 29 – May 1, the Boogaloo Music and Art Festival in Oak Canyon Park, Silverado, CA kicks off their second year! Organized by The Dirty Beetles artist collective, this boutique festival has been gaining popularity and has booked some major talent this year. Performers include Orgone, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, The Funk Hunters, Tropkillaz, DJ Dan, House of Vibe w/ Chali 2na, Crazy P, and Dirtybird favorites JPhlip, Christian Martin and Worthy. The incredible music lineup is only half the fun, Boogaloo will feature large art installations, art cars, live painting, and activities such as sunset yoga, guided meditation, arts & crafts, spiritual workshops and more.
At little bit of history from their website:
“Boogaloo started as a small family gathering in Lake Elsinore on top of a mountain as a birthday party for one of the founding members of the Dirty Beetles. It was set up again the following year as a fundraiser to build a art project for Burning Man. The event was a such a huge success, after taking a year off the Dirty Beetles decided to expand and create a multi stage music festival and camp out. Last year moving to the storied Oak Canyon Park location at Lake Irvine former home of Lighting in a Bottle and current location of Woogie Weekend & Dirty Bird Camp Out.”
In addition to the festivities, Boogaloo will also be honoring Los Angeles DJ Nicholas “Pumpkin” Alvorado who tragically died in a car accident on March 25. A beloved Beetle member, Pumpkin was scheduled to play the festival and instead will have a tribute set at sunset on Sunday played by EVeryman & Friends. It’s definitely a set you don’t want to miss!
