We’ve got a brand new festival on the schedule for 2019: Dark Palace. Taking place in Denver, Colorado over 3 days (November 22nd-24th), Dark Palace will be “A Dance Obscura” combining dance music and art installations for a weird, dark, alternate dimension. Meow Wolf is an arts company that does art installations and events, mostly in Santa Fe, New Mexico. So this festival is largely focused on art and mega art installations. Half of the lineup (the bottom square) are art artists (to clarify from music artists). The art events that Meow Wolf throws are alternate dimensions, trippy, dark rooms, and more so expect a weird weekend.
Meow Wolf is a Santa Fe, New Mexico based arts and entertainment group that established in 2008 as an art collective. The company is composed of nearly 300 artists across all disciplines including architecture, sculpture, painting, photography and video production, virtual and augmented reality, music and audio engineering, narrative writing, costuming and performance, and more. Basically everything. Meow Wolf creates immersive, interactive experiences to transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of story and exploration. The group’s first permanent installation showcases the THEA Award-winning House of Eternal Return, where guests discover a multidimensional mystery house with secret passages, portals to magical worlds, climbing apparatus, and surreal, maximalist & mesmerizing art exhibits.
The lineup for Dark Palace is a strange concept, with only house and techno on Friday and only experimental bass on Saturday and Sunday. You don’t usually see a festival split its days by genre, maybe one stage for each genre each day but not whole separate days. A unique tactic for a unique festival.
Friday’s lineup includes Claude VonStroke, MK, Guy Gerber, J. Worra, JLIN, Oona Dahl, Steve Darko, Jimmy Edgar and Option4. This includes a lot of Dirtybird artists as well as some straight techno. Saturday’s lineup includes CharlestheFirst, Shlohmo, VCTRE, Mass Relay, Megan Hamilton, LYFTD, Mikey Thunder and Nada Sound. Sunday’s lineup includes Of the Trees, Dirt Monkey, SHADES, Lauren Lane, Eli Escobar, Krystal Klear, Morgan G and Meso.
