Fall is one of the most fantastic times of the year; agreed? An abundance of sports are on television, the weather gets cooler, and best of all it’s my birthday season! This year my birthday falls on a Friday; October 26th to be exact. It just so happens to be the same day VooDoo Music + Arts Experience starts in New Orleans! Back to celebrate the festival’s twentieth year VooDoo Fest 2018 is setup with ample entertainment accompanied by great eats and maybe a few freaks. After all it will be Halloween Weekend in New Orleans!
Daily Lineup
With the festival being next month, musical acts have been assigned to their designated days. I’m super stoked seeing certain acts performing Friday. There’s nothing like celebrating a birthday with a little nineties nostalgia like Third Eye Blind. I watched them perform earlier this year and fans are still enjoying their music, new and old. Rufus Du Sol has become one of my newer favorite artists since last year. Whether they are DJing or performing with live vocals/instruments, their sets are always fun filled and amazing. However, I’m most excited about seeing Zeds Dead. The talented duo DC and Hooks are sure to put on a freaky Friday night performance for VooDoo attendees.
Saturday is bound to get a little weird considering some of the acts for the day. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious to see the one and only Marilyn Manson. Not that I am (or not) a fan of his music, but he’s one of the most eye popping acts on this lineup I want to see for a little bit. Marilyn Manson at VooDoo in New Orleans is a MUST see. Also on the weirdly talented train sits Childish Gambino. The multi faceted artist has been busy receiving recognition on the big screen as well as touring again this year musically. I’ve come to like another duo on the VooDoo lineup Saturday as well, Hippie Sabotage. After seeing the brothers perform at Sunset Music Festival, their mission looks to have a great time while engaging with the crowd.
Sunday sounds like a nice closeout day. Like the other days there is a nice clash of genres. I look forward to seeing 21 Savage for the first time. The young Atlanta rapper has come on the scene in recent years with his smooth style and collaborations with related acts like Migos, Travis Scott, and Future. Curious to see how the Nola crowd reacts to the Atlanta rapper. Tipper had me sold at Okeechobee this year; I’ve been waiting for another set. Excited to experience another trippy Tipper set. Lastly, I have Space Jesus for a must see. After seeing him birthday weekend at Hulaween last year, I felt it would only be appropriate to see him at VooDoo. Get ready for some weird wubs on Sunday.
Yes there are many Halloween festivals/parties around the country but VooDoo in New Orleans is the place to be. Not only is it a trip for the festival but it’s also a trip to New Orleans during HALLOWEEN. I don’t know anywhere else you can see this combination of musical artists on another lineup this year. Buy your tickets and get those costumes ready, October is on the way!
